Pulling yourself out of bed on a Monday is an awfully elusive thought on some days. The thoughts of your to-do list or plans for the week are either daunting or insanely exciting but still seem distant and your bed is warmer. Instead of reaching for that extra cup of joe or the double shot of espresso in your venti Iced Latte, go with Japanese Matcha for unexpected benefits and sustained energy.
We all know that tea can have as much caffeine as a cup of coffee and will be better for us in the long run. As a coffee drinker for years, I am too familiar with the jitters, shakes and uncontrollable need to keep talking even when everyone is done listening. After successfully going off the coff, getting a proper dose of caffeine is high on my list of priorities, just not from something that will leave me feeling like crap three hours later.
Enter Japanese Matcha. This stone ground tea is almost holy and drinking it is a ritual to thousands and has been for centuries. The leaf is naturally high in caffeine, antioxidants, and amino acids that lead to a unparalleled level of alertness. It was brought to Japan by the monks who relied on it during their hours of meditation to stay awake and focused. They were clearly on too something.
A study conducted by NYU found that L-theanine has direct influence on brain activity resulting in reduced stress and a relaxed mind without drowsiness. One study measured the alpha activity, responsible for attention, and found that there was a significant increase in alpha activity in those who consumed L-theanine compared to those who took a placebo. Another study found the connection between the amino acid and caffeine; the combination of caffeine with L-theanine improved speed, accuracy, multi tasking, and reduced the likelihood of distraction. Caffeine alone only increased alertness and accuracy.
This beautiful little compound triggers these waves to get moving and we may feel alert and focused almost instantly. Sure, you may feel a bit more energized after caffeine from coffee but this will usually be followed with a debilitating crash that doesn’t happen with matcha. Since matcha does have more than twice the caffeine of green tea the L-theanine neutralizes the jittery affects of caffeine providing a sustained energy for up to 6-8 hours.
Japanese Matcha’s unmatched health benefits can significantly improve your performance in the office and in life on a Monday. Try some of our elixir combined with turmeric for an even greater health benefit or try making a matcha latte for a warmer experience.
