The Original Turmeric Elixir – Ingredient Breakdown

By Max Goldberg

Recently, I was talking with Daniel Sullivan, founder of Temple Turmeric, and we were discussing the new products the company had launched in 2015, Super Lights and Super Blends.

These conversations are always incredibly fun for me because out of all of the companies that I cover in the organic industry, Temple Turmeric is definitely one of the most innovative. Daniel is obsessed about incorporating the most powerful ingredients on the planet into his drinks, and he is constantly thinking about new ways to deliver superior nutrition to customers.

After a few minutes, Daniel proceeded to ask me, “Out of all of our drinks, which is your favorite?”

I paused for a about five seconds, thought about which ones I like the best (there are so many), and responded “The Original. I just love it. It’s the best.”

The Original Elixir | Temple Turmeric

His reaction was one of surprise, yet satisfaction. He may have been expecting me to say one of his more complicated and elaborate formulations, but I could tell that my response gave him real joy. The Original Elixir formulation is the reason that the company is where it is today, and this drink still captivates my taste buds many years after first drinking it.

But taste is only one factor. The health benefits of the Original Elixir cannot be overlooked. Let’s take a look at what’s inside of this bottle and why:

Ultra-Purified Water

Water must be ultra-purified to remove any contaminants, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals our tap water may be filled with.

Polyflower Honey

I have spoken with Daniel about his honey, and he said that he scoured the globe looking for the most pure honey he could find.  And he believe that this is the best there is. Interestingly, it is the only ingredient in the entire Elixir line that is not USDA Organic certified. Daniel feels this trade-off is well worth the added benefits because many of the organic certified honeys on the market use heat pasteurization. Daniel has personally visited the apiary from where Temple Turmeric gets its honey, and he is incredibly comfortable with its sustainable agriculture practices, despite the fact that it is not certified organic.

Organic Hawaiian Oana Turmeric™

Hawaiian Oana Turmeric | @TempleTurmeric

This special varietal of turmeric, which the company exclusively uses, is grown in the rich soil in Hawaii.

Organic Ginger

Closely related to turmeric, ginger contains compounds called gingerols, which supports positive inflammation response.

Organic Lemon Juice

Lemons are great for supporting a positive immune response and keeping our digestive track clean. Plus, lemons contain Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, magnesium and many other vitamins and minerals.

Celtic Sea Salt®

All salts are not the same, and we should always be using a very high quality salt, such as Celtic Sea Salt®. This salt is raw and unrefined, and it contains 80 vital trace minerals and elements. There are no additives and nothing has been removed from this salt that would alter it in any way.

Organic Spearmint

Spearmint has antioxidant properties, nutrients, and helps provide balance and cool the digestive system.

Organic Cinnamon

Cinnamon has a unique quality of tasting sweet without any sugar, therefore it’s good for balancing blood sugar levels.

Organic Cardamom

A spice that originates from India, cardamom is excellent for supporting regular digestion and elimination and has been used in Ayurveda to support mouth and throat health.

Organic Cayenne

Cayenne pepper awakens metabolism and stimulates the circulatory system.

What’s notable here is that combining the enzymatic properties of honey with ginger, spearmint and cayenne allows the body to maximize absorption of Hawaiian Oana Turmeric™, the most important ingredient in this drink.

So, the next time you have a bottle of the Original Elixir in your hand, know that you’re not just drinking a great-tasting product, you’re also giving yourself some phenomenal nutrition that has been well-thought out.
